I need to be clear about Alignment and the relationship to Quests/ Events and Role Play.
The Alignment points of your character WILL shift when you participate in Events. There will be NO Neutral Events. Everything that is done that matters will require you to take a side in a conflict, but this DOES NOT mean that your character will necessarily experience an Alignment Change. It is possible, but that depends on you. If you always participate in Events and side with the good guys then you are playing your character as a fundamentally good person and they will eventually Shift to Good Alignment.
On the other side if your character always looks to foil the Good Guys and always supports the DA then guess what -- You are playing your character as a fundamentally Evil person. You will eventually Shift to Evil Alignment.
The same goes for Law/ Chaos.
Now, to you Druids: Do not be overly concerned about this. There will be ample opportunity for you to participate in Events and even though your Alignment points will shift around you will not necessarily lose the ability to take Druid Levels. But, it will force you to take a look at how you are interacting with the world. If you do too many good things (or evil) then you will lose your Neutrality. As it should be. That is why Neutrals are not trusted, why they do inexplicable things. It is part of Role Play and will not be ignored.
Now, as for the Alignment Shift discussions in the forums so far. From this point onward, if the DM fails to remember to give out the Alignment Shift Points at the end of the Event then so be it. You get a reprieve, there will be no further granting of points retroactively. Just remember, DMs will be giving out Alignment Points BEFORE XPs from now on. So don't think you can just drift off after XPs and get away with it.
Also, DMs will not be listening to cheap little tales about not taking an interest in the action, not seeing certain things, etc so you are exempt from the Alignment Shift. They will not listen.
If you want to remain Neutral you can. There will be ample opportunity to be on one side or the other during the Event and the choice is always YOURS. Do not complain to DMs that you do not want the Alignment Shift after you finished doing something.
Your other option to remain Neutral at all times and never take an Alignment Shift, is to refrain from participating in Events. This is not recommended.
As a Rule of Thumb here is a guide to how much Alignment Shift Points you can expect for actions.
1 point Good/Evil for Saving/Killing a towns person.
2 points Good/Evil for participating in a minor event (DM run - they decide).
5 points Good/Evil for participating in a major event (These will be obvious, the Finding of the Blue Crystal Staff was a Major Event).
