First of all, remember that the dm's are trying to make sure that the players are having fun. I'm sure that we've all been on an event on some server, possibly even this one, and didn't like or agree with something that happened. The unfortunate truth is that no can always make everyone happy. If you find yourself in this situation, then discuss it privately with the DM that ran the event, or myself privately. What I mean by privately is through /tells. Please don't shout it or clog up party chat with complaints about how an event was run.
Second, if you are on an event and you "die", then you may either lay there and wait for the event to come to a close, or you may respawn.
However, in either case, understand that you are effectively out of the that event. The obvious exception to this is if a pc is able to raise dead or resurrect you, or the dm does so for story line purposes. Please do not ask them to raise you and/or teleport you back to the party. They have all been instructed now not to do so.
The one exception to the raise rule, is the event of a new player in an event, such as a level one in an event populated by higher level characters. In the event that this happens, and there is no one able to raise dead, when the low level character dies, they are not to be treated as dead, but merely unconscious, and one of the players may 'heal' them, and thus the DM in charge will raise them. We want everyone to join in events, not just you level 5 bajillions
Third. Any time someone participates in an event, there will be a reward of some type. It may take the form of a level, experience, gold, items, so on and so forth. But there will always be something tangible. While I'm sure there are plenty of characters that are completely happy with just enjoying a good role play, I've always felt that rewards are like recognition, and pretty much everyone likes positive recognition.
