Background info-
I am an "old-school player" , starting out in the days of 1rst edition DnD ( yes I had the red and blue box sets too ) , and I am what you'd call an " RP/Action" player in regards to what we do on NWN.
I can RP for hours, given something or anything to work with. At the same time, I like having things to do, other than sitting around chatting the whole session.
I enjoy groups , especially when there are a mix of folks that like to RP as well.
Pure action players, don't bother me ... as long as they don't interrupt or be disruptive, but Names do bug-the-hell out of me, if I see a toon with something stupid for it's name.
WoGH here ... could be great for RP purposes, and I promise if PuffD lets me help him ... I can shape things to be not only action supportive, but more RP supportive as well.
But lets start simple here -
My first suggestion - Start area ... put at least a Tailor option in here. It would be nice, to be able to have the body tailor as well , but at the very least, a clothing tailor would be so much better right in the OOC starting area ...
WHY you ask?
Because I am one that believes in "looking the part" ... if you care about your characters at all, the bland "look" default NWN gives your starting toons, doesn't grant any individuality or flair for characters. I think if you look the part ... you play the part better. Feeling good about your character toon from the start, helps set the tone and mood for continuing on.
I'd go as far as to ask for "free " appearance changes from all tailors as well ... for the above reasons. You aren't gaining anything number wise by mere appearance changes, that aid all players viewing the characters anyways.
Some starting areas, lack the tailors ... such as Ruskis, and it cost 500 gold to get off the island, a long trip to GH ( you cannot start in GH by the level 4 block on the main portal ) , to just get a nice look and decent head for your character.
Second suggestion is a device scripted in that will allow you to port back to the OOC starting area conveniently ... it can be set to where it can't be used in combat , so no way to use it to avoid death or cheat.
Why you ask?
Well, lets assume we get players ( and we will ) ... now lets say players log in at different times, and get scattered around. Some start in borderkeep. Others in Ruskis , others ... wandering around searching elsewhere.
Finally a motivated player like myself logs in ... and tries to rally folks into a group to do more ... it'd help folks to be able to start from the same spot, meet up.
Plus all the information on starting in WoGH is in the start chambers ... it'd be really nice to be able to zap back, and view/review whats there.
At best , players might use the feature, to zap back to the start area, after clearing a dungeon ... and be able to quickly sell out loots to another area via portal already set.
I don't see that as a "bad thing" , but one that isn't very realistic or RP supportive - But , it's a livable-with concept if applied. And I'll tell you why I think it would be good, from the perspective of player behind a screen.
" Ok, so you logged in, and your group spends hours down in Dungeon-x " ... they gathered up tons of goodies/money ... now they have to travel back to civilization, but someone in the party says:
I've only got 10 more minutes to play, I gotta go!
So now what? What about their fair share of the loot? of the gold? No one knows what any of it's worth, or whats not ID , or who wants what to pick from.
To save time, and keep from having to try and remember who gets what down the road ... zap back, pop into GH sell out, trade/barter , get everyone their share, and then everyone can leave happy quickly if desired.
Other than that, the "normal way" should be utilized ... do the travel, stay in character ... do the sell/barter/trade as normal as possible.
But it doesn't really "hurt" anything for characters to get a quick cash-out option really.
I know this is getting long , but suggestion number-3 -
Special chest scripted , where you can place items and gold in ... once closed, divvies up the gold to all party members equally, just as if items were sold in a merchant.
We spent hours, before ... looking through the items, picking out what we wanted, and then selling the rest... then some poor member has to remember to give everyone their share, barter with them ... and hope they remember how much was already theirs , and how much each player gets. The "chest" would basically eliminate any errors on that part , and help keep up with each members earnings equally.
Ok, enough suggestions from me for now, though I probably have a library full of them , lol.
Thank you for the consideration -
