There are currently no server enforced ban on character class combination, however, there are role-play limitations. Only wizards may be a part of the Conclave of Magi (i.e. The Tower), or receive any of the benefits. Sorcerers CANNOT join the Conclave, and as such are all Renegades. Multi-class spell-casters are allowed, however a Conclave Mage cannot have any more than 5 levels of any other class. The exception to this is the Pale Master prestige class, which may be as high a level as you like. Keep in mind, though, the Pale Master prestige class is only for Black Robe Magi. (For obvious reasons).
Conclave strictures:
Levels 1-10: -= Student =-
Any player may take up to level 10 in a Wizard class without fear of being labeled Renegade. Of course, if you take even ONE level as a Sorcerer you are considered Renegade. If you plan to join the Tower you may find a Master at 1st level and be considered a Student Wizard.
--At level 8, please visit the forums, and post a request for a player to accept you as an apprentice.
--If at level 8 you cannot find a player to be your master, tell a dm and they will act as a master for you through a special npc already built for that purpose. There will of course be some role-playing involved, but that's the idea.
-=Tower Test=-
When you have attained level 8 in Wizard, inform a DM and they will set up a time and date for your tower test. The test will involve your ability with spells (combat), your knowledge of magic (Questions about the different orders of magic, some about spells in their use, that sort of thing.), and deciding which order you're best for (choosing the color of your robes). Upon completing your test, you will be awarded your first set of robes, possibly more, depending on your performance in the tests.
!!WARNING!!: The tests were intended to weed out those not strong enough in mind for higher magics. If your character fails this test, it will be deleted. Don't worry though, one wrong question, or even falling while in the combat phase will not automatically mean you fail. The DM's have a very strict pass/failure criteria. It shouldn't be too hard for anyone to pass, but it is a possibility.
Levels 11-16: -=Apprentice=-
As an apprentice you of course must have a master, of the appropriate order. (Good aligned casters-White Robe, Neutral aligned casters-Red Robe, Evil aligned casters-Black Robe.)
Level 17-20: -=Initiate of the Tower=-
Initiates of the Tower are allowed access to the tower's resources, but only to a point. This means that they will be restricted to certain areas only. They also receive Initiate robes.
Level 21-30: -=Mage of the Tower=-
Magi of the Tower have access to more of the tower's resources, and receive better robes.
Level 31-40: -=Archmage of the Tower=-
Archmagi of the Tower have, of course, access to even more of the tower's resources. Archmagi can also be considered for appointment to head of their order. They also receive Archmage robes.
Archmagi of the Tower may be part of the council of wizards, and then can propose and vote on topics concerning all magic in the world, have access to nearly all of the tower's resources, can be considered for both the head of an order and the head of the conclave, and are responsible for listing, determining punishment, and carrying out said punishment to renegade casters.
Elevation to Conclave (Council of Wizards) is done through RP. There are only 21 seats on Conclave, 7 for each Order.

There has been some questions about this so I'll clear it up. Bardic magic is not considered Wild Sorcery and as such Bards are not considered Renegade. Bards are not invited to join the Tower and their magic is considered beneath the notice of the Conclave.
