I want to say a few words regarding Meta-Gaming. Many PW set this as a Server Rule that there shall be No Meta Gaming, but fail to explain it well enough, IMHO.
The basis of this type of Role Playing no no is when a player uses knowledge that his/her character would not know, IC. I know it is fun to be the one who explains a concept, historical event, etc, but just remember that EVERYONE wants to be the one to show off like that. It can get really annoying when someone does that constantly without regard for others playing with them. You do not want to be one of these people (I hope anyway )
Now, how do you get your share of "Aha, I know that" moments? Lore Checks. If you are in a RP and you want your character to explain something that you are not sure is common knowledge you have 2 choices:
1. Ask the players you are RPing with in Tells. Let them know you think it is time to have such a concept explained in the RP and Everyone then rolls Lore to see if that is known by someone in the RP Thread. You can even apply an agreed DC to the Lore Check, this is encouraged.
or
2. Ask a DM to moderate the RP Thread. This is the best choice and leaves nothing to ambiguity.
Examples of Meta-Gaming would be:
- Talking about knowledge of the Old Gods. Not too many know anything about the Old Gods anymore. So if you want to use something you know then this is a Lore Check at DC 10.
- Talking about ancient site, such as Xak Tsaroth. IG many PCs have journeyed there and been through the place, but there are no plaques in the place that say: Temple of Mishakal, etc. The big statue does look like Mishakal... but your Character does not know what she looks like. If you want to use your knowledge (as a Player and fan of Dragonlance) then please, this is a Lore Check at DC 15 (to know the name of the Goddess) and a DC 20 to know about the history of the place, and a DC of 25 to know that the Disks of Mishakal could be hidden there.
Hope that clears things up with regard to Meta-Gaming. I will strongly discourage this type of thing. So beware.
If you Meta-Game and I catch you, expect a XP penalty of anywhere between -10 points to 1 whole level (Depending on the nature of the offense).
On the other hand... I reward good RP generously. Something that is good RP, done IG (and within ear-shot ) will be rewarded from +10 points to 1 whole Level (once again depending on the nature of the RP Thread and your contribution).
I want everyone to feel included in the game, included in the story and to feel that their contributions matter and that there are NO FAVOURITES. Please keep this in mind as you play here. I will be completely fair minded in my decisions. I will not come down hard on ppl without checking with the other DMs first. But believe me, if you deserve it, the hammer will be dropped.
Have fun
